Riot At Baby shambles No-Show

So, the Astoria. Several of my friends say that they saw Peter arrive at the venue - whether that is true or not I don't know. Whatever happened, Baby shambles didn't play and after two hours of waiting, the curtains were lowered on to the stage and an announcement was made. Seconds later what could best be described as a riot began to take place. The curtains were torn down, the drum kit was smashed and essentially the entire contents of the stage were destroyed. As the "rioting" progressed, the security became more and more aggressive, they drove the kids from the stage and forced them back to the other side of the barrier. Then things started to get really violent, a security guard tore electric cabling from the stage to form a whip, leapt over the barriers and proceeded to lash at the kids. People around me were crying as the security guard caught one of the teenagers who was trying to run away and beat him as he knelt on the floor. The whole spectacle was horrific and left everyone who saw it in a state of utter shock. Now I'm left debating what I should do with the pictures, they are incredibly graphic and I get the feeling that they have the potential to cause an awful lot of trouble.

Whatever you do with them, do something with them. I left as soon as the announcement was made because I knew they'd go mental. Whatever people were doing on the stage, security is there to stop things like that from happening. It was utterly predictable that if he didn't show there would be a riot and the staff were totally unprepared for that happening.

The photos have to be shown, if only to show what an utter state the venue security is in over here. They're useless.

I agree, somethings got to be done with them, if only to prevent future occurances like this one. It's obviously time for a few security guards to get fired.

Plus, I'm sure nme would probably pay a pretty penny for them.

Sweet God! Your photos definitely should be used to get those security guards fired, if nothing else (like say as evidence in court or something). I just hope no one got seriously hurt.

i think without a doubt the security in question will be fired.

my friend also has pictures he took downstairs of one of the kids covered in blood after the security had attacked him.

those security guard's actions are unbelievable... you have to do something with those photos. even if it was a no show, and a babyshambles one with all the associated fanaticism that means, they shouldn't be allowed to get away with behaving like that. at the end of the day, they're just dealing with upset kids, and no matter how much the venue was getting trashed there is NO excuse for using a whip on them!

in that photo, the way that boy is holding the girl says it all.

The Astoria and Mean Fiddler have some of the most heavy-handed, brain-dead security staff I've ever had the displeasure of encountering (and that's saying something.) If you've got evidence of them actually beating kids, I think you've got a responsibility to send copies to the Mean Fiddler group - and I have to say it was courageous of you to keep snapping. I don't imagine for a minute that the security staff go through any kind of training to help them deal with a situation like this, and so they react the way moronic people react: violently.

But knowing Doherty's track record on turning up for gigs, the crowd reacted with a similarly disproportionate level of stupidity. You've just been deprived of seeing approximately 15 songs being played by an unreliable popstar. You get on stage and start smashing up thousands of pounds worth of gear, in front of people whose sole purpose it is to stop people doing what they're not supposed to do. For christ's sake. Go home, and come and watch him do it another day. You've been disappointed before. Deal with it.

Can't see Babyshambles getting booked in any London venue after this.

Good point well made Mr Marsden. I'm in agreement, the pictures should be sent to Mean Fiddler to show them what the security in their venues are capable of.

Hope you're ok. I can imagine being in that sort of situation could be quite frightening.

xx

Jesus Christ. I left while folk were flooding onto the stage, and by the sound of it, that was probably the right time to get out of there.
I have to say, the whipping incident has shocked me, slightly. Your photos could do well in making sure the person/people responsible couldn't do it again.

Wow. What do you do with those photos? It seems as though you have a lot of power in those photos... They would probably most useful if the people attacked by security guards pressed charges, yes?

Its about time the violence used by Security at gig venues is highlghted in the press, as a victim myself in the past i think the evidence should go to the police without doubt.
